As is true for most urban campuses, parking in the area around the University is quite limited. On-campus parking can also be scarce and expensive. Because of this, we recommend (and encourage) a GREEN-alternative - take public and/or university transportation to the Georgetown Campus if possible (refer to the section on public transportation).]

On-Campus Visitor Parking:

There are 2 visitor parking lots available on the Georgetown campus (see map):
  1. Southwest Garage on the south end and
  2. Leavey Center Garage in the center of campus.

The largest number of daily parking spaces is available in the Southwest Garage and can be reached by entering campus from Canal Road. The hourly parking rate is $3.00 while the daily parking rate is $15.00 (as of July 1, 2008).

The centrally-located Leavey Center Garage has a limited number of visitor parking spots, accessible from Entrance 1 off Reservoir Road. Parking rates are: $10/1 hr. $15/2 hr $20/3 hr. and $25/4 hr and above.

Georgetown University is not responsible for fire, theft, damage to or loss from any motor vehicle parked in the University lots or any article left in such vehicles.

Street Parking:

Parking around campus is severely limited and strictly enforced by the DC police (MPD) and the DC Department of Public Works (DPW). Most streets require a Zone 2 residential permit issued by the District of Columbia for parking for longer than two hours. A limited number of metered spaces are available on Reservoir Road, 37th Street and Prospect Street.

Public Transportation in Washington, DC and to the Georgetown Campus:

Washington's Metro has a clean and convenient subway system; however, the three closest stops to Georgetown are all a brisk half-hour walk away. Instead of taking the taxi from the Metro station, the University runs free and frequent shuttle bus services (Georgetown University Transit System, or GUTS) to/from the Rosslyn Metro (Orange and Blue Line trains) station (N.W. corner of Moore St. and 19th St.) and Dupont Circle (Red Line) stations (Massachusetts Ave. at 21st St.). These buses have pick-up and drop-off points just outside the Southwest Garage. When boarding the GUTS bus, inform the driver (if asked) that you are attending a conference on campus and show picture identification.

Also, the G2 Metrobus also runs directly from Dupont Circle along P Street to the main gate of Georgetown (37th and O Streets, NW).
